A classic consumer unit upgrade, shown before and after. The original board was an ageing Crabtree Starbreaker unit with a mix of older protective devices and untidy, congested cabling — typical of an installation due for modernisation.
We replaced it with a new FuseBox consumer unit fitted with a full bank of RCBOs, giving every circuit its own individual overcurrent and earth-fault protection. The looms were re-dressed and labelled, and all connections checked and tightened to guard against the loose-connection faults that cause overheating.
Upgrading the board brings the installation in line with current standards and adds the RCD and surge protection that older boards lack — a worthwhile safety improvement for any home. Installed and tested by our NICEIC-approved electricians, with a clean, well-organised finish and full certification on completion.
